Karl Overman: Birds and more

In November of 1988 John Wall organized a trip to Irian Jaya with Dennis Yong and myself.  John likes to go after difficult, spectacular species and MacGregor’s Bird of Paradise definitely fit the bill at the time.  We took a week trekking up to timberline in the Snow Mountains of Irian Jaya to see this species.  I wonder if we would have undertaken the journey after the species was demoted to a mere honeyeater instead of being a member of that elete family of birds, aptly named Birds of Paradise.
