Karl Overman: Birds and more

The photos illustrate the light and dark phases of the species.  The perched dark phased bird is intriguing. Short-tailed Hawks are rarely seen perched.  This is only the second time (the first in the 1970s) that I have seen the species perched in Florida.

The flight shot of a dark phased Short-tailed Hawk was one of three widely scattered  birds I saw in two days in Central Florida in March of 2013.

The light phased bird was photographed in Goodland which is where the less affluent were moved in the heyday of the development of Marco Island.  Two days later I had a dark phased Short-tailed Hawk over that same community.
