Karl Overman: Birds and more

The Lenawee County bird is interesting.  For starters it is late for being around in the southernmost tier of Michigan Counties by May 15th.  Then there is the issue of it having a red-nape.  Now the literature does say that occasisonally Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers can have a red nape but how to tell this from a female Red-naped Sapsucker who occasionally have an all orange throat is beyond my pay grade. Tony Leukering flagged this bird on ebird when I put it down as a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker so at least one high powered birder thought the ID was problematic.

The Magee Marsh bird is still not in adult plumage which seems unusual for late April.
