Karl Overman: Birds and More

The Gypsy Moth, an import from Europe, has been attacking the forests of North America for decades. In 2020, a complaint to the Entomological Society of America saying “Gypsy”  is a slur and should not be used despite its usual for decades without any negative consequences to anyone.  Nonetheless in our woke culture, one complaint was enough to banish the term from official entomological literature in June of 2021. Is the 1969 movie by the same name, based on a novel by the same name, now have to be canceled?   It seems very unlikely that that will change the common usage of the term for this moth.
